Pochettino: Two points dropped for Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino felt his side "dropped two points" following the Europa League Group J draw with Monaco at Stade Louis II on Thursday.

Argentine attacker Erik Lamela put the north Londoners ahead against the principality club but they were denied their second group win when Stephan El Shaarawy headed in with nine minutes to play.

And after producing the better of the openings against Leonardo Jardim's men, the Spurs coach admits he was irked at having to share the spoils.

"I think it's two points dropped," he told BT Sport. "It's true in the first half it was difficult for us because Monaco created some chances and we scored. In the second half we dominated the game.

"I think we were unluky because the three points were for us but I am happy with the performance and the effort because we played against a team that has a lot of good players.

"It's not easy to get the victory here but it's true that the feeling is we lost two points".

Midfielder Dele Alli received his first senior international call-up on Thursday for England's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers and marked the occasion with a hand in the opener but Pochettino is hoping to keep the youngster focused.

"I'm very happy for Dele, it's important to look after him. We have a great relationship with [England manager] Roy Hodgson and his staff.

"We have to keep his feet on the ground but he's very mature on and off the pitch."
