Under-fire Rodgers still enjoying Liverpool challenge despite jeers

Brendan Rodgers remains hopeful of continuing to rebuild Liverpool as their manager following a 1-1 draw at home to Sion in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Reds opened the scoring inside five minutes at Anfield through Adam Lallana but were unable to add to their tally after the Swiss side equalised from Ebenezer Assifuah's smart finish.

Rodgers has come under considerable pressure following a stuttering start to the new campaign but the Northern Irishman shrugged it off, saying he is unfazed by the task of turning the club's fortunes around.

"It's the pressures of a huge club like this," he told BT Sport. "Like I say, I immensely enjoy the job here, it's a wonderful challenge in terms of how we've been building it over the last couple of years, and it's a rebuilding job again, and we'll take it forward."

A chorus of boos rang out the Kop End following the full-time whistle and Rodgers acknowledges the supporters will be voicing their discontent again should Liverpool fail to muster a positive result when they head to city rivals Everton on Sunday for the Merseyside derby.

"That's how it's been for a little while now but we just go into the game and focus on the performance," he continued.

"It'll be a tough game, but they all are, they're all exciting games, the players look forward to it. We'll recover after this game and look forward to going to Goodison and getting a result.

"This is my fourth season in and I thankfully haven't lost a derby yet, we've won and drawn some, but they're always good games.

"Where we're at, we're a point behind Everton, a couple of points behind the top four.

"It's being realistic as well - I know the media and the written press will build the game up but for us we'll stay calm and get focused on the game and look to get the three points."
